Why it’s important to select a surgeon who knows precisely where to target Botox injections

Why Dr. DeLuca and Dr. Tauber personally administer all Botox injections
- Because even though each 15 minute treatment often appears relatively simple compared to say, nose surgery, injecting Botox safely, correctly and effectively actually requires a great deal of medical training and experience on the part of the doctor.
- Because Dr. DeLuca and Dr. Tauber believe that patients who see them for ‘minimally invasive’ procedures like Botox require just as much personalized attention and care as those seeing him for cosmetic surgery.
There are 43 individual muscles in your face, and pinpointing the exact spot where the treatment should be administered is vitally important to achieve optimum results.
Why Dr. DeLuca and Dr. Tauber only use fresh Botox
The fresher the Botox, the more consistent and long-lasting its effects will be. Not all Botox is stored or used equally. So in order to ensure the most consistent and long-lasting results possible for his patients,
- Each patient receives single-use vials only.
- The botox solution is mixed fresh during your appointment (not all surgeons do this since it’s cheaper to reuse un-used product).
In most patients (especially those new to the treatment), Botox lasts between 3-4 months. That said, it’s is possible for some patients to achieve results that last up to 6, 9 or even 12 months after several years of consistent and properly-administered use of the product (which was the topic of a blog post by Dr. DeLuca titled: How long does Botox last and can it last longer?)
Average Units of Botox Needed For Each Treatment Area
The number of units needed to treat each area depends on the severity of your wrinkles and your reaction to the toxin. Some patients require more units to effectively smooth out their wrinkles while others require less. Dr. DeLuca and Dr. Tauber inject whatever amount is required to obtain an optimal result.
Average Units of Botox Needed For Each Treatment Zone | |
Treatment Area | Avg. # of Units |
---|---|
Crows feet | 8-14 units per side |
Forehead wrinkles | 8-20 units |
Glabella area (botox between eyebrows) | 16-36 units |
How Dr. DeLuca and Dr. Tauber Use Botox to Treat Fine Lines & Wrinkles
Using a very thin needle, Dr. DeLuca or Dr. Tauber will gently inject small amounts of Botox into very specific muscles. He carefully targets only wrinkle-inducing muscles so that your natural facial expression are preserved.

A single-use vial of Botox
The total length of the treatment is very short, usually around 15 minutes. Many factors influence the actual number of injections you will need, including genetics, your individual facial features and the extent of your wrinkling. Minor creases such as crow’s feet, for example, usually require about three injections, while deep furrows above your brow can require five or more.
The usual length of time it takes to see the full results is usually around one week, but you may start seeing differences within a few days. The effects of Botox usually last about three to four months, with your muscle reactions and wrinkles returning as the paralyzing effect of the treatment wears off.
Is Botox the right anti-wrinkle treatment for you?
Botox won’t fix all types of wrinkle issues. For example, while Botox can help minimize under-eye wrinkles, it can’t repair the deep wrinkles caused by over-exposure to the sun. Also important to keep in mind is the fact that Botox works differently on different skin thicknesses and types. Some skin types takes very well to Botox while others tend to respond less dramatically to it’s wrinkle-reducing properties.
That said, there’s a reason why Botox is one of the most popular non-surgical alternatives to full or mini facelift surgery. Simply put, it’s the safest and most effective treatment options for smoothing out the following wrinkle-prone areas:
- Crows feet (corners of the eyes)
- Frown lines (between the eyebrows)
- Forehead wrinkles & furrows
A qualified plastic surgeon like Dr. DeLuca or Dr. Tauber is the best person to evaluate the appropriateness of Botox for you especially since another facial filler (like Juvederm, Belotero, Volbella, or Voluma) may, in fact, be better at treating the wrinkles you wish to minimize (which happens quite regularly after a closer inspection and discussion of cosmetic goals). Having personally administered 1,000’s of injections of Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse and Botox, Dr. Tauber and Dr. DeLuca are experts at determining which facial filler is best for you.
