Dr. DeLuca and Dr. Tauber personally administer all Juvederm injections.

Juvederm filler is an “injectable filler” that is designed to soften deep folds and reduce wrinkles in specific areas of the face. The filler is largely comprised of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in the skin, muscles, and tendons of mammals. Juvederm is non-animal derived, biodegradable, and natural, and it was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in June of 2006. Juvederm injections are most often used for three applications:

  • Soften “smile lines” (nasolabial fold), the creases of skin that run from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth.
  • Fill in marionette lines, the vertical facial wrinkles and folds that form below the corners of the mouth.
  • Plump up thin lips or augment lips that have lost their volume and fullness.
The results are almost instant and typically last anywhere from six to twelve months. Repeat injections may be required to achieve and maintain optimal correction of your wrinkles and folds since all hyaluronic acid facial filler products eventually get absorbed back into the body.Juvederm wrinkle treatment can be combined with other cosmetic skin procedures such as Botox, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or even facelift surgery to further improve your results. This combination of therapies can even help to prevent the formation of new lines and wrinkles.

Why Surgical Experience Matters

In the wrong or inexperienced hands, hyaluronic acid injections can be dangerous. In addition to seeking a doctor who is trained and qualified in plastic surgery, you should always make sure the physician is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has significant experience with Juvederm injections.
At DeLuca Plastic Surgery, Dr. DeLuca or Dr. Tauber personally administer all cosmetic injections and facial fillers. Why? Because anatomical knowledge, skill, and years of experience lead to better results and fewer complications when it comes to Juvederm. Injections may seem simple when compared to say, rhinoplasty, but injectable fillers actually require a very experienced medical professional to safely achieve optimal results.

How Juvederm Injections Work

Young and healthy skin contains an abundance of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). As you age, sunlight, and many other factors begin to break down and reduce the amount of HA in your skin. The lack of HA causes your skin to lose both its structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds—like the lines around your nose and mouth. Much like a sponge, HA’s primary function is to bind and absorb water, which creates volume in the face. In this way, hyaluronic acid can be thought of as the body’s internal moisturizer.
Juvederm fillers, and other hyaluronic acid fillers on the market like Restylane, can help replenish your body’s depleting supply and bring back its volume while smoothing away facial overly deep wrinkles and folds.

I want to express how much I appreciate the wonderful work of Dr. DeLuca. He is professional and has improved my self-confidence and has taken such good care of me, over and beyond the call of duty. Dr. DeLuca strives to ensure your satisfaction and performs superior work that looks natural and healthy—not fake and plasterized. Over the years, he has taken great care to detail as well. All should know about Dr. DeLuca as he is the plastic surgeon to go to for not only medical procedures pertaining to medically necessary plastic surgeries but also plastic surgery of a cosmetic nature if someone wants to look and feel better about themselves.*

Finding the Right Wrinkle Treatment

Juvederm won’t fix all types of facial wrinkles. For example, while it can diminish smile lines, it can’t repair the damage caused by the sun or fill in forehead wrinkles. Your skin thickness, type, and the degree of wrinkling all play a role in determining the effectiveness of Juvederm. Board-certified plastic surgeons, like Dr. DeLuca and Dr. Tauber, are the best person to evaluate the appropriateness of Juvederm for you, especially since another facial filler may, in fact, be better at treating the wrinkles you wish to minimize (which is sometimes the case upon closer inspection and discussion of a patient’s cosmetic goals). Having personally administered over 1,500 of Juvederm, Restylane, Sculptra, Radiesse, and Botox injections, Dr. DeLuca and Dr. Tauber are experts at determining which injectable filler is best for you.

Your Appointment at DeLuca Plastic Surgery

After discussing your goals and carefully analyzing the lines and folds of your face, Dr. DeLuca or Dr. Tauber will inject small amounts of Juvederm into the mid- to deep dermis of your facial folds using a very thin needle. While no anesthesia is required, Dr. DeLuca and Dr. Tauber do like to use topical or local anesthetic to minimize discomfort. The procedure takes about 15 minutes, and there is no postoperative downtime with Juvederm. This filler adds volume to the wrinkles and folds in the treatment area, ostensibly filling them in. The results are immediate, and some people only require one treatment session.
One advantage to Juvederm is very pliant gel consistency, which provides a smoother, more natural-looking appearance than some of its more rigid predecessors. Another advantage is that Juvederm is long lasting and can maintain its results for 6 to 12 months. The benefits can last even longer if follow-up treatments are administered a few weeks after the first treatment.
The number of injections you need will depend on multiple factors, including your facial features and the deepness of your wrinkles. For example, filling in nasal labia folds usually requires 1 to 2 injections while lip augmentations and lip lines typically takes one.

Historically, when someone finds an amazing plastic surgeon, they tend to keep him/her to themselves. That is not the case with me. I searched for a very long time, both in and out of the Capital District to find a physician who was compassionate, honest, progressive, not aggressive, and someone who had amazing surgical techniques and an artful eye for creating the appearance of natural beauty. I have been a patient of Dr. DeLuca’s for many years, and I have continued to be pleased with everything he has helped me with.
Over the years, I have made many referrals, and each and every one of them has felt that Dr. DeLuca far exceeded their expectations. I don’t think it gets much better than that!*
