Eyelid Lift Surgery (Blepharoplasty) in Albany NY

Help reduce the appearance of eye bags, lift droopy upper eyelids, and present a brighter, more rested looking you with blepharoplasty at DeLuca Plastic Surgery.

Given how dramatic the difference can be between eyes that appear rested and refreshed and eyes that appear tired and old, we believe that a well-performed upper or lower lid blepharoplasty can be an effective option available to those interested in rejuvenating their appearance. Blepharoplasty has become one of the most popular surgical procedures among patients over the age of 50, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
If you’re interested in “freshening up” your appearance but not quite ready for a more invasive facelift, our team invites you to read on, view our before & after photos, and come in for a consultation.

The Importance of an Experienced Plastic Surgeon

Blepharoplasty is an extremely delicate procedure that requires masterful technique, precision, and care on the part of the surgeon. With over 28 years and several hundred cases worth of eyelid surgery experience, Dr. DeLuca and Dr. Tauber have become adept at shaping eyes so that they appear bright, rested, open, and naturally more youthful without diminishing their intrinsic character, beauty, or familiarity. In short, patients trust DeLuca Plastic Surgery because of several factors:

  • Technical mastery, careful analysis, intelligent planning, and a proven track record for achieving the best result possible for their blepharoplasty patients.
  • Non-aggressive, appropriately conservative approach to all eyelid procedures.
  • Extremely low post-op complications rate.
  • Commitment to 24/7 patient care, both before and after surgery.

“Just as no two individuals are the exactly alike, neither are our eyes. Hence, each blepharoplasty case must be completely individualized and unique to every single patient in order to achieve the most pleasing and optimal results possible. That is my commitment to you.*”

— Dr. William F. DeLuca, 2011

“I am a 52-year-old woman. As a dark skinned “ Mediterranean” woman, I have been plagued with very dark circles under my eyes whether I am tired or not. As such, I have been applying concealer on my circles for the last 40 years. Not being the gentle-touch kind of person, I inadvertently created a lot of unsightly damage. In addition to this (and perhaps hereditary), my eyelids were drooping such that in the late afternoon, I had trouble seeing (anything but half of an eyelid). My friends suggested that I consider having a procedure known as a blepharoplasty, and Dr. DeLuca was the most frequently recommended surgeon. After doing extensive research, I decided to proceed. Dr. DeLuca informed me that he could solve the issue with the incredibly excessive skin above and below my eyes, but he indicated that I would, by heritage, still have the dark circles. I truly appreciated his honesty and proceeded anyway. The surgery was a ‘piece of cake,’ just like the Dr. D said it would be. I am a wimp and did not believe him, but he was right! So many of my friends that knew that I was having this done, raved about how good I looked. Being a skeptic, I reserved comment. Then, when Dr. DeLuca showed me the before and after pictures, I was blown away!! In fact, I would be happy to speak via Dr. DeLuca with anyone who is considering this surgery and has any questions or reservations (like I did before going through with the procedure).”

A Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty

There are several conditions eyelid blepharoplasty can correct. A consultation is needed to determine which specific approach is best for you.
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty can help correct heavy drooping, reduce excess fatty deposits, tighten eye muscles and tissue, and reduce excess skin that interferes with vision. During the procedure, the surgeon enters through an incision within the natural crease of the upper eyelid which, when healed, becomes imperceptible.

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is typically a purely cosmetic procedure. It involves reducing the fat from the around the lower portion of the eye which tend to cause bulges around the eyes as we age. The procedure can be approached from inside of the eyelid or through a small incision in the skin just below the eyelash line. In either case, once the incision heals, it too typically becomes imperceptible.

Eye Issues That Blepharoplasty Cannot Fix

While eyelid surgery helps improve the shape of aging eyelids by trimming excess skin and sculpting of the deeper layers (fat and muscle), it is important to remember that this procedure cannot fix the following problems:

  • Droopy eyebrows
  • Wrinkles caused by smiling or squinting
  • Thin and sun-damaged skin
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Volume loss in the tear trough area

That said, many of the above issues could be corrected through other surgeries or cosmetic products. Beyond the specific details of a correct diagnosis, a consultation is needed to determine treatment options.

Your Consultation with DeLuca Plastic Surgery

During your initial consultation for eyelid surgery, Dr. DeLuca or Dr. Tauber will thoroughly discuss your desires and expectations for blepharoplasty and rejuvenation around the eyes. After a careful discussion of your health history and previous treatments, he will conduct a thorough examination of your eyes and face, including your skin tone, texture, and elasticity, facial soft tissue relationships, bone structure, and muscle dynamics of the areas around the eyelids in particular. Your surgeon will carefully review the blepharoplasty procedure or a combination of procedures that suit you best. Dr. DeLuca or Dr. Tauber will answer all questions that you might have regarding any step of the eyelid lift process. By the end of your consultation with DeLuca Plastic Surgery, you will have the necessary understanding to make an informed decision regarding eyelid surgery.

Blepharoplasty Cost & Recovery Time

Two weeks is the average recovery (or “back to normal”) time for most patients. Sutures are removed five to seven days after surgery, and swelling and bruising (which can be covered up with makeup) typically subsides within two or three weeks. As with all cosmetic procedures, some patients experience very little bruising or swelling while others may take from four to six weeks to fully recover.

In regards to cost, what affects the total cost of blepharoplasty most is whether you are correcting both sets of lids (upper & lower) or one set of lids. At DeLuca Plastic Surgery, a standard four-lid procedure with skin and fat excision or repositioning usually costs in the neighborhood of $6,500. This price includes all fees (anesthesia, hospital/surgery-center, surgeon fees, etc.). An upper lid blepharoplasty alone (all fees included) will typically cost under $3,500 while a lower lid blepharoplasty alone (with anesthesia) will typically cost around $4,500 (because of the fat excision or repositioning). So you save a bit when both upper and lower are performed in a single surgery.
