What are tubular breasts?

A tubular breast is a breast that did not complete the development stage due to a congenital abnormality. The condition can impact one or both breasts and affect their shape and size.
The typical appearance of a tuberous breast is a narrow, cone-shaped breast with a high breast fold and disproportionately large, puffy areola – however, variations, which only include some or, one of these findings are common. The severity of the condition defines the type and ranges from mild to severe. On the mild end of the spectrum, you will see a subtle constriction on the lower part of the breast. Severe cases involve complete restriction of the breast and an underdeveloped gland.
Dr. William DeLuca and the surgical team at DeLuca Plastic Surgery have developed an expertise in evaluating, treating, and managing the post-operative course of these difficult surgical problems.
Preparing for Tuberous Breast Treatment
You will meet with Dr. DeLuca before your surgery to prepare for the steps you will soon take. To make sure no hidden issues are present, Dr. DeLuca will ask you questions about your medical history before making a final decision. Based on measurements of your breast and your post-operative goals, Dr. DeLuca will create a surgical plan. 3-D computer visualizations are sometimes used to help you see your breasts in their new size and shape.
Tubular Corrective Surgery
In simple terms, corrective surgery for tubular breasts involves the release of the constricted tissue and the insertion of an implant. Depending on your needs, goals and situation, your surgeon will make additional incisions to ensure no constricted tissue remains.
The surgery begins with an incision around the areola followed by development of a pocket (space) for the implant. During this dissection, the tight breast tissue is released. The implant is, then, inserted using a minimal-touch technique and adjusted to fit properly. The final step involves lifting and reducing the size of the large areola using these same incisions. The skin is closed with absorbable sutures and the breasts supported in a post-operative bra.
Post-Treatment Care
For the best results, you should take it easy after your procedure and avoid strenuous activities. Dr. DeLuca will set up a series of follow-up appointments to make sure you are healing as planned and that no complications have appeared. Dr. Deluca is available 24/7 to answer any questions or address any concerns during the post-operative healing period.

I am 28 years old and for about 10 years I have wanted to correct my tuberous breast condition, which I no longer have thanks to Dr. DeLuca! I had consultations all over the world, with about 10-12 different plastic surgeons. It was only when I posted my photos and question on RealSelf.com that I came across Dr. DeLuca. He was one of many surgeons who replied to my question, yet instantly, I felt he knew exactly what he was talking about and how to solve what I called “my breast issues”. Right away, I knew I had found “The One” – in the surgeon form that is.
While many plastic surgeons told me that my breasts would never be “perfect” and that I may require numerous surgeries to correct them, Dr. DeLuca’s straight forward and confident response led me to his website, where I found several before and after photos of woman with similar breasts to mine. This blew me away. Seeing Dr. DeLuca’s results in photos gave me great confidence that I had finally found a surgeon who knew how exactly to deal with a case like mine!
So in August of this year, I booked my ticket and hotel accommodations and flew all the way to Albany, New York for my surgery (I’m from Australia). Many people told me it was quite a long distance to fly but I knew it was worth the distance for I had finally found a surgeon who I could trust and had complete confidence in.
I am two weeks post op and I can say that I now have what I consider “perfect” breasts. Prior to my surgery, I wasn’t even aiming for perfection, I just wanted to look and feel normal. I just wanted my condition to be fixed. However, Dr. DeLuca exceeded my expectations by far. I went shopping yesterday at Victoria Secret and what a pleasure it was to be told by the shop assistance what lovely breasts I have. What a pleasure it was to fit properly into a bra.
I wish I could say that this surgery hasn’t changed my life, but I guess in many ways it has. I felt my condition held me back in so many ways before the correction. Be it in intimate relationships, in how I dressed or how I saw myself, inside I was confident, I just felt my body (breasts) didn’t reflect it. Now I have nothing to hold me back!
I want to give my sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. DeLuca, his staff in the office and his nursing staff (who were even so sweet to ask me out for Dinner as they knew I was here alone). Thank you for allowing me to trust in you and for your superior work in correcting my tuberous breast condition.
I hope you show my before and after photos because only when people see it, will they truly believe how amazing my result is.

Like many women who suffer from tuberous breasts, I felt as though it defined me–defined me as an inadequate woman. Without going into too much detail because many women already understand how negatively having tuberous breasts can affect every aspect of one’s life, much of my own anxiety and depression issues were wrapped up in my negative body image which was directly related to having tuberous breasts. I was ashamed and this led to me avoiding relationships–intimate or otherwise. Looking back, I realize that I was barely living, and most certainty not living for myself.
The decision to look into breast augmentation was a hard one–after all, I did not want to be judged any more than I felt I already had been because of my breasts, but I truly felt it was the right thing for me. I am so happy I followed through and attended my consultation with Dr. William DeLuca. Not only did he understand medically what was wrong with my breasts, but he understood the psychological stresses that were plaguing me. He took the time to truly understand who I was as a person in order to better counsel me on if the procedure would be a viable course of action.
I never once felt pushed or like he was “selling” me shiny new breasts. I trusted him so completely that I allowed him to make the decisions regarding the size because he took the time to understand who I am.
I must say that I have never been happier or more confident. Dr. DeLuca did a perfect job–I finally have the breasts I should have had if Mother Nature had not wanted to play a joke on me. I am completely proportioned–completely natural. My recovery was a breeze, which is a testament to Dr. DeLuca’s skill with tuberous breast correction procedures.
I HIGHLY recommend that any woman who suffers from tuberous breasts consult with Dr. DeLuca. As I quickly discovered in my research process, Dr. DeLuca’s skill with tuberous breast correction is unrivaled and his compassion is without equal. He has truly changed my life by allowing me to have a healthy relationship with myself which has led to healthier relationships in all aspects of my life.

Tuberous Breast Correction
My entire life I had been beyond embarrassed about the appearance of my tuberous breasts. After many years of researching plastic surgeons that specialize in this procedure, I finally came across Dr. DeLuca’s website, and decided he was the doctor I wanted to help me.
Dr. DeLuca & his staff were wonderful every step of the way. No matter how many questions I asked (a whole lot), the doctor & his staff (special shout out to 2 of his nurses, Brianne & Karen) were more than happy to answer my questions. I couldn’t be happier with my results, and trust me, that’s a lot coming from someone like me, who expects & wants nothing but the best.
I am only day 2 post op and I’m pretty much just taking Motrin for the pain at this point. I just went for my 1st post op appointment and if I could have, I would’ve hugged the doctor, but I am still a little sore.
Suffice to say, there is no question in my mind that I made the right decision in going with Dr. DeLuca.

As a 19-year-old, I’m a very motivated individual who is just starting to find my passion in life. I’ve always been rather confident, but my uneven breasts had taken a huge psychological toll on me. Once I started to seriously consider having plastic surgery, I consulted multiple surgeons. While researching, I stumbled upon Doctor DeLuca, and knew almost immediately that he was the right surgeon for me.
Essentially, what Dr. DeLuca was able to do was a dual plane breast augmentation through a periareolar incision/lift with expansion of the lower pole. He utilized a 300cc saline implant in the smaller breast, and filled the other implant to less than 300cc to match. There was no need for expanders or multiple surgeries, and he was able to make my breasts the same size and shape, including the areolas, all of which other surgeons I consulted could not do for me. This made the 90min drive to see him completely worth it!
Choosing to have breast augmentation surgery has been such a positive experience. The surgery went as smooth as possible, excellent surgeon, excellent staff, and excellent results thus far! I couldn’t be happier. Realself really enforced my decision to see Doctor DeLuca and have this surgery done, so I hope I can inform or help at least one person with my profile too.
Doctor DeLuca was both professional and personable. I initially had a phone consultation with him, and then met him a week later to discuss my options and schedule surgery. He was very thorough in explaining how the procedure would be performed, he gave me peace of mind, and I could tell he had the experience necessary to correct my issue. He is truly a miracle worker!

I am now 6 months post-op and finally writing my review of Dr. Deluca and his wonderful work. Prior to my surgery, I spent years contemplating whether I wanted to have this procedure done or not. I’ve always been a confident girl, but at the same time felt like I had something to hide. After growing tired of my body not reflecting how I felt about myself, I decided to schedule a consultation. I had no doubt that Dr. Deluca would be the best choice for this procedure, and the consultation confirmed this for me. I felt very comfortable throughout the consultation and confident in his recommendations in order for me to achieve the best results from the procedure. I was so excited to schedule an appointment for the surgery! The procedure would consist of a dual plane augmentation with a periareolar mastopexy & expansion of the lower pole, using smooth, round (silicone) implants.
Day of Surgery: The surgery was done at St. Peter’s Surgery & Endoscopy Center in Albany. The staff was wonderful and made me feel very comfortable as I waited for the procedure to begin (can you believe I was actually excited to have my chest cut open?!). The last thing I remember before the surgery was seeing Dr. Deluca in all his medical gear and thinking to myself, wow this is so cool. And then it feels like you blink and you’re in the recovery room, already in your surgical bra, prepared to go home.
Recovery: There is definitely some pain involved (as to be expected), and some modifications you have to make in your daily routine for the following couple weeks — but all manageable. There were no times when I thought to myself, man, I wish I didn’t do that. Your chest will feel very tight and you will have limited mobility in your arms for a little while. I also remember feeling zaps of pain and after some google-ing realized that that was actually my nerves reconnecting. It’s crazy what the body can do & how it has the ability to heal itself!
Today: Six months passed and if you were to feel my boobs now, you probably wouldn’t even know they’re fake! They’ve dropped into a very natural (yet beautifully perky) position and feel almost exactly like normal breast tissue. What a nice feeling it is to look at yourself in the mirror and love what you see! I didn’t realize how badly I needed this surgery until I had it done. And, of course, none of this would’ve been possible without Dr. Deluca! If you’re looking for a surgeon, look no further. He’s your guy.
